Introducing MooBuzz® Matte Color

Introducing MooBuzz® Matte Color

Want to protect your favorite matte leather? Fear not! MooBuzz® Matte Color lets you add matte (non-shiny) color to leather while providing the benefits of deep conditioning and waterproofing. That means you can protect and condition your leather sans the shine.

MooBuzz® Matte Color is based on our Original Formula of MooBuzz® All-Natural Leather Protection — which is made up of two all-natural ingredients: 100% pure Neatsfoot Oil and Beeswax. We add natural pigment to our Original Formula to provide the same conditioning and waterproofing benefits and to also help you maintain the matte color of your leather goods. Unlike polish, MooBuzz® Matte Color will not buff out to a high shine.

What’s it for?

Use MooBuzz® Matte Color on any smooth (not suede) leather to maintain the black or brown color. It is not a dye or refinisher. It’s intended to condition your leather and add color to maintain the look of shoes, boots, belts, bags and any other leather where a dull or matte finish is desired. It works particularly well on oil-tanned leather, leather with a dull or matte finish, slightly nappy leather or pull-up leather, and rough out leather. It will not buff to a shine like regular polish.

To use or not to use?

A lot of leather items on the market are now available in a matte finish, and many shoes and boots are now available in matte black or rough out leather (which by its very nature has a very matte finish). Want to maintain the condition and look of that leather? With the current products on the market, you’ll be hard-pressed to do so without also adding unwanted shine. On rough out leather in particular, regular polish can have really negative results. That's why we developed MooBuzz® Matte Color. Even if you have purchased leather goods in the past that have a shiny finish, you may notice that the color fades with everyday wear and tear. If you want to touch up the color but prefer a matte finish, use  MooBuzz® Matte Color instead of a polish.

How to use it?

Use MooBuzz® Matte Color just as you would the Original Formula of MooBuzz® All-Natural Leather Protection. In addition to matte pigment, it will provide deep condition and waterproof your leather. See our blog post How to Condition and Waterproof Your Leather with MooBuzz® All-Natural Leather Protection for more information on how to use our Original Formula.

Easy Application Instruction

Before rubbing anything into your leather, including MooBuzz® Matte Color, be sure that your leather is clean and dry.

Then, start by using a clean soft cloth to rub a small amount of MooBuzz® Matte Color onto an inconspicuous area of your leather to see if you like how it looks. On shoes and boots a good area to test is just above the heel in the back, on the tongue, or under the laces. On a bag it might be on an inside pocket. Rub briskly and allow it to absorb for up to 10 minutes. Once absorbed, use a cloth to remove any excess and take a look to see if you like it.

One note of caution: Just like with regular shoe polish, MooBuzz® Matte Color will discolor contrast-colored stitching (contrast stitching is stitching that is lighter than or a different color from the leather). To preserve the color of contrast stitching be careful to apply MooBuzz® Matte Color just up to, but not over, the stitching.

If you like how it looks on your leather, apply a small amount to the rest of your leather using a brisk circular motion. A little goes a long way! Rub well into worn and faded areas.

Once you’ve applied MooBuzz® Matte Color to your leather, allow it to absorb for a few minutes. You can leave it up to 24 hours if you’d like. It’ll just allow the color to penetrate more deeply. Once absorbed, rub briskly with a clean soft cloth to remove excess.

Just like with regular shoe polish, you may note some color coming off (or bleeding) onto your cloth. This is totally normal. To achieve a nice mellow matte finish and reduce the “bleed,”  lightly mist the leather with water or rub with a moist cloth. Then buff all over with a soft cloth or horsehair brush.

Done! Step into those shoes, stand back – and admire! For more leather care tips and tricks, sign up for our newsletter.
